Seven Simple Steps To A Highly Effective Job Interview
1. Understand What the Job Requirements Are Prior to the Interview The day prior to going into an interview, be prepared; learn as much as possible about the job.
- Your MDI recruiter has thoroughly interviewed the client and can provide you with detailed information regarding the project, product and company environment.
- Practice your interview with your MDI recruiter. Experiment with answers to difficult interviewing questions and practice with your recruiter until you feel comfortable and confident that you will be able to present positive, relaxed and confident information about your experiences and background to the hiring manager.
2. Understand the Prospective Employer's Product Before your interview, you should understand what the employer's products and services are; what type of industry they compete in plus the organization's history and challenges.
In addition to information your recruiter can provide you, try searching the Internet for more information:
3. Foresee Why the Organization Has a Need for this Position Part of your interview process should be to question the hiring manager as to why the staffing requirement is open and then you need to be prepared to show how your background, skill set, and abilities can provide the solution. Work closely with your MDI recruiter to prepare your statements in this area.
4. Prepare Your Own Outline of Issues to Discuss Make a specific list of your achievements from your past that shows you can meet the requirements of the job. Again, role-play this part of the interview with your recruiter. Having practiced your 'lines' will add credibility to your interview and enhance the probability of getting hired.
5. Interview Presentations and Attire There are no predetermined words that the interviewer wants to hear. The interviewer is concerned about how you will perform in the job he or she is trying to fill. In addition, an interviewer doesn't expect you to show up for an interview wearing a specific outfit, but they do expect that you will dress appropriately for the position.
If the position is for a highly technical or professional position, you should dress in standard, sensible business attire with shined shoes and a reasonable hairstyle. If the position requires you to perform a skills test, such as a welder, dress in conservative and clean work clothes. If you are unsure how to dress, lean toward being more conservative.
6. Be Considerate Be courteous to everyone, this includes the receptionists and everyone you come in contact with during the interview process. First impressions leave a lasting mark on all those you come in contact with during the interview process. This also includes other applicants waiting for an interview. Employers may use your performance in these encounters to determine how an interviewee may interact with other employees.
7. Be Positive Be positive and enthusiastic about a job! Always, focus on the reasons for wanting to start a new job rather than reasons for leaving a previous job. Always thinking positive during the interview leads to positive statements which is what most interviewers are looking for in a candidate.
